Three years ago, all the attention was on the size of an influencer's viewers -- just how many Instagram"followers" they had. Brands and marketers alike assumed with more followersmeant more earned for every dollar invested, or so they thought.
An ER measures how much of an audience is engaged using an influencer's content. A low ER is a cause of concern, yet the cause of which might be a number of things.
Before I tell you how you can increase your ER, I will lay out a few of the main aspects in what can cause it to become reduced.
Poor quality content
Posting too frequently
Not providing value
Number of followers
To compute your ER, you can use among the free Instagram tools such as the MightyScout participation rate calculator. It's calculated by adding your remarks and likes and dividing it from your follower count -- normally given as a result of the ordinary ER throughout the last 30 articles.
While a 2.5% ER for an influencer with 2,500 followers could be considered low, it'd be considered average for you with over a thousand followers. That said, let's look at some business benchmarks. Below is a guideline to get an influencer with 10,000 followers:
Less than 2 percent = Low participation rate.
Above 4 percent = High engagement rate.
Why is your participation rate important?
Like I said, entrepreneurs appreciate this metric and hold it high when assessing what they'll offer you, or even when they'll contact you in the first location. A bad ER means they're placing their marketing dollars at risk. Whether you use Instagram for company, or on your own, upping your ER should be top of mind.

Grow your audience with authentic followers
One of the simplest ways to grow your follower count is by follow & refollow, which I laid out in my guide on growing your own follower count. Although, this approach should not be relied on as your heart development strategy as it attracts the majority of robots and other influencers who are simply only following and unfollowing.
I think building your accounts to obtain more social signals is vital. Having over 10,000 followers provides you more standing. Now when real Instagrammers land on your profile, they will be more inclined to follow you.
If you watched my video on the best way to increase your follower count, you'd have noticed that engaging on niche hashtags with personalized remarks and a strong call-to-action to follow you, is among the best ways to develop an authentic audience which values the content you produce for them.
2. Increase the quality of your content
Definitely one of the most crucial elements in boosting your ER is the quality of your content. Additionally, it is no secret that Instagram captions are key to creating engaging content. The caption you write should also include at least one question (rather as the first sentence).
Should you doubt your creative ability to curate high quality content, then collect inspiration from other successful influencers. Adhere to those that you aspire to be like and also get started copying the content they create, right down to what's in the backgrounds of the photos and exactly what Instagram filters they use. Did they post a photograph licking ice cream with one leg in the air, standing on the sidewalk with a palm tree in the background? Great, replicate it.
While you might not consider yourself creative or artistic at this time, you can copy individuals who are till you yourself are.
You have the answers to this exam, all you need to do is copy them onto paper.
3. Article according to your audience insights
If you haven't already changed your Instagram profile from an individual to a company account, do it today. There aren't any downfalls to getting a company account, nor is it even reserved for businesses. Among other perks, you'll get access to viewers insights. This will breakdown as soon check here as your audience is most active, providing you with the best times to upload your articles. However, you need to aim to post an hour or two before your summit engagement window, particularly if this window drops 9PM or after. Reason being, your article is only going to be seen for a couple hours before the majority of your followers will be shutting off their phones for the night before going to bed.
In this manner, you are going to allow yourself an hour or two to gain likes and comments, before hitting your peak engagement window at which you can then ride the Instagram algorithm.
4. Concentrate on providing value
If you're a student of ours, then you will have seen me preach over and over on providing value to your audience. I have mentioned it before and I'll say it again; folks do not care about you, they only care about what you can do for them.
Be it entertainment, business training, fitness tips, or tech suggestions -- you need to choose what skill set you have others can benefit from.
Whenever your audience looks to you for help and guidance on a particular subject, they will naturally be in tune with your content. I use this example a Good Deal, and for good reason:
You are a fashion influencer who specializes in providing affordable fashion information to working and lower class folk. You teach people how they could dress stylishly, without breaking the bank. Your audience enjoys your articles and seeks your information -- you supply them value.
Yet, most trend influencers just share their favourite outfits in overly staged photos using simple post captions. There is nothing that makes that influencer unique and their viewer's interest in them often stops at look.
If you're struggling to find a means to provide value, start by becoming a student of your craft. As you create content and develop your audience, engage in Facebook groups, masterminds, and subreddits. They say you're the topic of the five people you spend time together -- why can not one of those five be whole communities in your field of interest or expertise?
When you feel confident enough to begin teaching others your craft, incorporate it in your content. You may even utilize Instagram Stories to poll our audience to learn what type of content they'd find valuable.
Quick, simple, and straightforward. Sort through your articles and archive (or delete) any that either doesn't fit the aesthetic of your webpage, or obtained low engagement. This will instantly raise your ER as these articles will no more be skewing your own numbers.
6. Use market hashtags
You likely use hashtags already, but how much consideration do you give to which ones you use? The motive hashtags work for many people is because they either already have a huge accounts and can show up from the'Top Posts' for that niche, or they're smart and choosing niche hashtags.
Immediately after you upload a post, paste them into the first comment.
When building your own bank of hashtags, focus on people who have between 50,000 and 500,000 unique tags, as in, the number of times those hashtags are put to use in a comment or article. If you select only the ones More information which have been used millions of times, you'll only show up in'Recent' to get a few minutes before you are too far down the feed for anyone to find you.
I'll actually share with you one pair of 30 hashtags that people use, here you go:
7. BONUS: Combine engagement pods*
Engagement pods are Direct Message (DM) groups of influencers of up to 32 people, who can each share their articles to the team to possess another members move into enjoy and comment on their posts.
You can find these pods by appearing on Reddit or within Facebook Groups. They're easy enough to find within a matter of minutes. Make sure that you're active in them, enjoying and commenting on every member's articles.
While these may be effective, they do have their downfalls. It is common practice to post generic remarks like"OMG I need this" on class member's sponsored articles, which is easily spotted by brands. When the only people commenting on a post are different influencers, it's apparent that they are active in engagement pods.
They will also be time consuming since you'll frequently have to like and comment on dozens of articles every day. Who wants to start out their Instagram program and find they have 87 posts they need to like and comment on? Not I. If I had been you, I would only use these to kickstart your growth and then ditch them after you have momentum.
What's the buzz about Instagram automation tools?
Don't. Did Instagrammers not learn their lesson if Instagram banned millions of accounts for buying likes and comments? All these Instagram bot automation tools aren't just costly, they don't guarantee any results and are often conducted by 17 year old, self-proclaimed marketing and advertising professionals. They're also against Instagram's Terms of Service, so there is a higher risk of getting caught in one of the mass accounts cleanups they do a few times per year.
How would you like to spend all of the money and time growing an Instagram account through automation tools, simply to open the program one day and see that your account has been banned? I don't imagine you would discover that enjoyable.
It retains potential to make you more than the usual 9--5, at a portion of this time. Soak up as much info as possible online, place these practices into place, and have patience.
